Great meeting this morning! Besides the coffee and donuts we discussed the upcoming “Run For Your Life” on 28 April. The 10K route has changed a little. We want to do some APRS stuff on that event, too. Also, we want to get the yellow shirts ordered before then; that's my action item. .
Chuck, N7BFO, will bring some cutouts of graphic images, etc., to the next meeting so we can lay them out and begin to envision what our club banner will look like. If we can lock into a design, Brian, KI6FZJ, has a vinyl “plotter” which can cut out whatever images we decide on and we can apply those to a vinyl banner. We should realize a real cost savings by building it ourselves.
We set up two Airmail stations and got started on a third with a donated laptop from Carol, KI6FZI. It was a modest start, but we’re on our way. We’re still looking to establish an Airmail “net” at some agreed-upon time to exercise our systems and gain some expertise in digital comm.
We have decided to get together next Friday afternoon, the 23rd, to go over to Anita Churpek’s house, (George’s (N6FL) widow), and do some definite planning as to how to empty his ham shack and dispose of his equipment. We'll undoubtedly plan several workdays later to get the work done. With good planning we will get the stuff inventoried, packed, and stored as we get ready to sell through the outlets available to us: OVARC members, other local ham clubs and newsletters, word-of-mouth, and possibly -Bay. A number of the items will be donated into our club inventory and Richard, WA6IZH, can help to make sure that Anita gets the proper tax write-off for her donations. Interestingly, after I got home after the meeting, I found out that I have to drive to San Jose Friday afternoon for my son's Spring Break. Ill participate in the Churpek trip to get everyone introduced and oriented, but then Ill have to take off and head north. I’ll give Anita a call and make sure she’s
OK with a visitation sometime around 1300, or so, on Friday. Drop me an Email if you are able to participate in this exercise.
At the very end of the meeting I suggested that we go ahead and request that members start to pay “dues” of $5 a month. Don’t want anything too complicated, but that will gradually increase our bank account, especially after we realize any expenses for the banner, or whatever. It’s a modest amount; what, about the cost of a Starbuck’s coffee once a month? Anyone interested in paying in advance for a year ($60) certainly won't be discouraged hi hi. I’ll continue to get the coffee and doughnuts for the foreseeable future.
73,
Wayne
